Migrating from ECC to S/4HANA and Cloud Delivery Models
The move to SAP S/4HANA has been a focus for SAP customers since an end of mainstream maintenance date for core SAP Business Suite applications. The emphasis on the move to SAP S/4HANA has increased with importance as 2027 approaches and organizations realize that it may no longer be possible for them to complete their move before the deadline. For organizations that are planning to complete the move preparation steps include evaluating existing systems to see whether they are ready for the transition, acquiring licenses for new software, converting, updating, and cleansing data, determining a deployment model, selecting infrastructure, and finding a partner or ramping up internal resources.
Part of the move to SAP S/4HANA has become inextricably tied to the move to the cloud as SAP continues to push cloud ERP and subscription-based licensing. But there has also been an accelerating move of enterprise workloads to the cloud as organizations look to embrace the greater scalability and flexibility that cloud infrastructure offers. Cloud delivery models can include deployments in infrastructure-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service, or software-as-a-service environments. For those moving to SAP S/4HANA Cloud options also exist for multi-tenant or single-tenant deployments, aligned with the RISE with SAP and GROW with SAP offerings.
