What Is SAP NetWeaver?
SAP NetWeaver is SAP’s application and integration platform, introduced in 2004, that serves as the technology foundation for on-premise SAP Business Suite and SAP S/4HANA. Migrating Custom ABAP Code to SAP S/4HANA
Custom ABAP code built on SAP NetWeaver must be assessed and adapted before migrating to SAP S/4HANA. Tools including ABAP Test Cockpit and the Custom Code Migration app help teams catalog legacy code, identify deprecated objects and choose between side-by-side refactoring, in-place adaptation or branch-system approaches. Starting code analysis early prevents ABAP developers from becoming a bottleneck in high-visibility migration projects.
SAP NetWeaver Zero-Day Vulnerability CVE-2025-31324
A critical April 2025 zero-day in the SAP NetWeaver Java Application Server, rated CVSS 10.0 and listed as CVE-2025-31324, allowed unauthenticated uploads of malicious executables. Applying the patch did not remediate already-compromised systems, requiring post-exploitation detection work. SAP Security Notes Surge: NetWeaver Under Escalating Threat
SAP issued 207 security notes in 2025, a 39% increase over 2024, with 25 classified as Hot News at CVSS 9.0 or higher. SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer was the target of a CVSS 10.0 vulnerability enabling remote, unauthenticated file uploads. Organizations running NetWeaver must prioritize timely patch application and stronger security governance as the platform approaches its 2027 mainstream maintenance deadline.
