Benefit from automated Transport Management also after SAP S/4HANA migration

C&A is one of the leading retailers in Europe and employs more than 31,000 people in 18 European countries. As the central IT service provider for the C&A company, C&A Services – like many others – is experiencing a continuously increasing volume of SAP transport orders.

“For several three-tier ABAP system landscapes, we have been using the Transport Manager (TM) for years”, explains Polina Klibanova, SAP Basis Administrator at C&A Services. “With the conversion to SAP S/4HANA, we wanted to connect the new systems to the TM as well.” The advantages are obvious: automated processes relieve the SAP Basis teams, overtakers and collisions are avoided, while all transports are traceable and documented in an audit-proof manner.

Together with REALTECH, C&A Services not only realized the efficient automation of transport management under SAP S/4HANA, but at the same time also the flexible link between SAP systems on-premises and in the cloud (SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC)).

Automated Change and Transport Management in SAP S/4HANA

C&A Services already relied on automated SAP transport processes by REALTECH before the migration. Consequently, the advantages of the software were to be retained after the changeover. To make this possible, SmartChange Transport Management would be optimized for operation under SAP S/4HANA in accordance with SAP best practices. Compatibility with both classic ERP and SAP S/4HANA lays the foundation for a successful transition. The delivery as an add-on component also enables secure installation and uninstallation with immanent Syntax and consistency checks, in accordance with SAP guidelines. The pilot project with C&A Services formed the basis for the SAP S/4HANA certification of SmartChange. This has been guaranteed in all modules since the 2019 release.

Flexible distribution of transports in hybrid SAP system landscapes

For C&A Services, it was important that the proven processes and benefits of SmartChange Transport Management remained available, even during the move to a hybrid SAP system landscape (on-premises and SAP HEC). For this purpose, the installation of Transport Manager had to be modified for the new requirements in the hybrid environment. In addition, it was necessary to find answers to new requirements and restrictions on the part of SAP HEC, which had no influence on the transport processes during on-premises operation. With the new developed functionalities of the software, C&A Services can centrally distribute and control all transports. It makes no difference whether transports are made to the cloud or on-premises.
