Key Takeaways

⇨ Watsonx.ai enables AI builders to leverage pre-trained models for Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications

⇨ Watsonx.data lets data scientists, engineers, and non-technical users scale analytics and AI with a fit-for-purpose data store

⇨ Watsonx.governance facilitates responsible, transparent, and explainable AI workflows

IBM has announced WatsonX, an AI and data platform designed for enterprise applications. The platform has three major components: Watsonx.ai, Watsonx.data, and Watsonx.governance.

  1. Watsonx.ai is focused on foundation models, generative AI, and machine learning. AI builders can leverage pre-trained models from the Hugging Face community for Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications.
  2. Watsonx.data scales AI workloads with a fit-for-purpose data store built on open lakehouse architecture. Data scientists, engineers, and non-technical users will have self-service access to enterprise data across cloud and on-premises environments through a single entry point.
  3. Watsonx.governance: (scheduled for release in November) enables IBM to leverage its AI governance capabilities to help organizations implement end-to-end lifecycle governance, mitigate risk, and comply with AI and industry regulations.

IBM stated that the new product release has been shaped by feedback from more than 150 users across industries like telecommunications and banking. Over 40 organizations who participated in IBM’s data and tech preview programs expressed excitement to leverage foundation models and machine learning within a unified platform. Notable examples include IBM’s partnership with NASA, which help develop the foundation model for analyzing geospatial data, and Wimbledon, who utilized WatsonX to produce tennis commentary.
