Key Takeaways

⇨ There are now three different packaging options for RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition.

⇨ Premium is equivalent to the original packaging of RISE with SAP on release.

⇨ Only Premium Plus includes generative AI and sustainability innovations.

When SAP first announced RISE with SAP in 2021, the package only included SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP Business Network Starter Pack, consumption credits for SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Signavio’s business process transformation tools, infrastructure solutions, and embedded tools, which included SAP Readiness Check, custom code migration tools, and SAP Enable Now. However, as of October 2023, there are three ways RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition is packaged. Given that this does not include how RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition is packaged, there are almost certainly more than three package options.

The three packaging offerings currently available for RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition are Base, Premium, and Premium Plus. SAP had initially announced a premium edition of RISE with SAP during the Q2 2023 earnings call, and had discussed a 30% uplift in cost for that package. However, instead of just offering RISE with SAP premium, SAP is now offering three packages with no discussion of the difference in price between those packages.

The Base edition of RISE with SAP now comes with just three elements. The first is SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, which is the ERP core of RISE with SAP. The second piece is SAP BTP Work Zone, or specifically SAP Build Work Zone, a tool for creating what SAP calls business sites, to accelerate work across enterprise applications. The third piece of the Base edition is Group Reporting, which is part of the office of the CFO (oCEO). According to the information that SAP shared during the recent SAPinsider event in Copenhagen, there are no other RISE with SAP entitlements in the Base packaging; pricing is for Tier 1 only, and hosting is only on SAP data centers.

The next option for RISE with SAP is the Premium packaging. This adds several pieces to what is in the Base edition. Adding to the Base packaging offerings, premium packaging includes access to business process transformation tools from SAP Signavio. This includes SAP Signavio Process Insights, SAP Signavio Process Manager, and SAP Signavio Collaboration Hub. Premium packaging also includes CPEA credits that can be used for SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), and SAP Build tools including SAP Build Process Automation and SAP Build Apps. Combining SAP Build Process Automation with the tools from SAP Signavio, RISE with SAP premium packaging offers many of the business process transformation capabilities that were the original focus of RISE with SAP.

The last packaging option is Premium Plus, which includes everything from Premium packaging with the newly announced innovations like multiple new financial innovations targeted at the oCEO including Cash Management, Receivables Management, Group Reporting Data Collection, and SAC Planning. Premium Plus also includes the Supplier Portal from the SAP Procurement Network, and new sustainability offerings including SAP Sustainability Footprint Management and SAP Sustainability Control Tower. The last two pieces of the Premium Plus package are generative AI offerings, including the generative AI assistant Joule and SAP Datasphere. SAP Datasphere’s inclusion in this packaging demonstrates the importance of this product in centralizing data across the enterprise.

What Does This Mean for SAPinsiders?

While RISE with SAP is to SAP’s goals of becoming a true become cloud company, the multiple packaging options offer interesting options for SAPinsiders. At the bottom tier is a bare-bones release that contains SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, some Group Reporting capabilities, and the ability to create sites that centralize enterprise applications. The middle tier, RISE with SAP premium, contains the original components of RISE with SAP. However, it is unclear whether there is an additional cost associated with this packaging compared to what was sold in the past. The top-level tier of RISE with SAP Premium Plus includes many of SAP’s most recent innovations plus SAP Datasphere.

By creating multiple packaging options for RISE with SAP, there is now the potential for customers to tailor their purchases to their specific needs. However, it also enables SAP to increase prices significantly. This means that RISE with SAP Premium Plus is actually a bigger price uplift over the original offering, although this may not be clear in a contract since each organization’s environment is unique. SAPinsiders planning on moving forward with RISE with SAP must evaluate the differences between these packages and determine which is right for them.
