SAP ETL Tools

ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) Tools for Today’s Analytics

Companies are looking to integrate and analyze data on SAP Business Warehouse or on other platforms like Snowflake, Azure Synapse, and Google BigQuery to generate insights for their decision making. Merging varied SAP data from heterogeneous sources in real-time is a challenge, which is exacerbated by the prevalence of both structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data.

ETL (extract, transform, and load) is the process in which the data is extracted from any data sources and transformed into a proper format for storing and future reference purposes. The data is loaded into a database or data warehouse.

ETL tools are used to route data to and from the various SAP and non-SAP systems. They can transform data into different formats depending upon source and destination systems. They also can be used for cleaning the data by running some checks. ETL tools can ensure that rules on how to extract and transform data outside of an application are maintained and utilized.

ETL tools are used for the management of the ETL pipelines. They can extract the data from several data sources by connecting with the databases and storing the data in a data warehouse so that they can be used for reporting and analytics. They may also provide testing of the data pipelines and reporting of the executed runs. The advantage of ETL tools is that they do require limited user intervention.

Some type of ETL tools today include

  • Enterprise software tools, such as those from SAP, which are application-based tools provided as a product by several large software companies.
  • Cloud-based ETL tools are provided by many cloud providers as service when clients store data on a cloud platform.
  • Open-source ETL tools are free-to-use software that can be be cloud-based or on-premise.
  • Reverse-ETL tools are the opposite of the ETL or ELT process where the data flows into the data warehouse.
