As cyber-attacks continue to multiply, organizations must take measures to prevent the high costs associated with data breach. Conventional security safeguards are increasingly inadequate for protecting the information held in your SAP systems. The session will explore why passwords are the most vulnerable aspect of the security system and how implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) can improve user productivity by allowing users to rely on single strong password or, if required, enabling password-less authentication (zero passwords required). This approach can be combined with policy-based Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in line with a Zero Trust framework following a Zero Trust architecture to further increase security while maintaining user productivity.

Authentication methods have evolved over the years. The use of passwords has become the standard over the last few decades with virtually every application requiring one. Then, single sign-on (SSO) was introduced to reduce the number of passwords that users must remember and to improve user productivity. However, passwords have become the focus of phishing attacks, resulting in more security breaches. Consequently, the need for two/multi-factor authentication (2FA/MFA) where additional factors are now required, so attackers cannot gain access even if they have stolen the user’s password. The ideal scenario is clearly where the user has zero passwords to remember but is still able to authenticate as themselves. Think your anti-virus software shields your SAP applications? Think again! Numerous SAP-based applications enable users to attach documents or files to various business processes. Whether it’s a job applicant uploading a CV, photos taken by a field technician using a FIORI app, or a sales representative scanning a lunch receipt for a travel expense application, these uploads can carry hidden risks. Most businesses understand that malware may accompany these uploaded files, and as a result, they install state-of-the-art anti-virus software to scan files, inbound emails, and web traffic across all desktops and servers. With this measure in place, they often believe their company is safeguarded.

But the reality is, this protection only extends to the OS level. Since OS-level anti-virus solutions do not detect uploads into SAP applications, SAP systems and users remain exposed.

H. Lundbeck A/S expected challenges in data consistency when the company started its preparation to migrate to SAP S/4 version 2022. It had to deal with more than 60 company codes in over 40 countries with multiple ledgers and currencies, data going back from 2003, new G/L activated in 2008, together with the implementation of new asset accounting recently in ECC. But after they completed two trial conversions and one sandbox real conversion, including clean-up in the productive system, they are still facing new migration errors, including errors with G/L and asset accounting.

One of the key learnings from this process is to know when and how to use transaction FINS_MIG_STATUS, as well as when to use FINS_RECONXXX of G/L and asset accounting focus.
