The SAP ECC deadline is fast approaching as 2027 draws near. As a result, businesses that have relied on ERP systems like SAP ECC are finding themselves navigating the complexities of their journey towards modern, cloud-based solutions such as SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

According to Robert Brice, president at DataMAX Software Group, Inc, RFgen, migrating to a cloud-based ERP like SAP S/4HANA Cloud presents opportunities to enhance inventory operations.

However, changing ERP platforms can mean re-acquiring and re-integrating mobile software altogether.

Platforms like RFgen Mobile Edge specialize in multi-ERP integration and are capable of compatibility with both legacy and modern cloud-based ERP systems – a time and cost-saving solution for SAP users’ on their cloud migrations.

Brice said: “Using mobile apps, advanced mobile barcoding and software automation, RFgen Mobile Edge can drive improvements in efficiency, visibility and data-driven insights.”

He added that RFgen users can enhance their data collection through Mobile Edge with the following:

  • Real-time mobile software with microsecond ERP updates.
  • Live KPI dashboards for warehousing and manufacturing.
  • Machine-level data collection for IoT devices and industrial computers.
  • Integration of autonomous vehicles (AVGs), scales and carousels.
  • Specialized workflow automation for site-specific operations.

Brice highlighted a case study where Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC), a global manufacturer of cement and concrete, migrated from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA Cloud with the help of RFgen Mobile Foundations for SAP.

With facilities spread throughout Latin and North America and experiencing rapid growth, GCC faced major challenges in managing spare parts inventory for MRO.

Spare parts inventory movements were recorded by hand, causing discrepancies between what mechanics wrote down and what was entered into the system, creating inaccurate consumption and inventory reporting. In order to compensate for these discrepancies, the warehouse had to stock more parts to prevent shortages.

GCC adopted RFgen Mobile Foundations for SAP, a mobile barcoding solution featuring suites of pre-built, pre-validated mobile apps. The RFgen solution allowed GCC to gain real-time mobile inventory tracking and visibility with accuracy for every spare parts warehouse in their organization for plant maintenance. The integration was done with minimal adjustments and no interruptions to supply chain operations.

Brice said: “Mobile solution providers like RFgen Software offer experience and insights for companies seeking to transition their mobile data collection solution. Organizations that partner with RFgen can leverage extensive knowledge and a deep understanding of their ERP and supply chain challenges.”
