SAP Fiori Revolutionizes User Experience

For decades, SAP users have had to memorize a long list of cryptic transaction codes—such as ME23N, VA01, VF03, MB52—to interface with their SAP software. SAP’s user interface based on SAP GUI is complicated and non-intuitive, which often leads to errors, slow onboarding, and employee dissatisfaction. SAP changed that in 2013 with the introduction of SAP Fiori.

SAP Fiori provides an intuitive, simple, and new user experience for SAP software, with thousands of pre-configured applications that replace legacy transaction codes used in SAP overlayed with “persona-based” user experience.

SAPInsider’s research Application Strategies and Development for SAP S/4HANA and Cloud found that almost 90% of SAP clients have either deployed (33%), are deploying (30%) or are planning to deploy (24%) SAP Fiori apps.

The SAP Fiori Difference

The design principles used in SAP Fiori make it simple and user friendly, especially for the new or occasional SAP user. These are:

  1. Role-Based− SAP has rendered various SAP transactions into easy and attractive applications that are tailored to each role (persona).
  2. Responsiveness− SAP Fiori, when combined with SAP HANA, provides rapid application response and query execution time.
  3. Simple− SAP Fiori simplifies each transaction in a 1-1-3 scenario, i.e., 1 user, 1 use case, and 3 screens.
  4. Seamless Experience− SAP provides all Fiori apps with a similar look-and-feel, whether on-premise, in the cloud, or on any device or mobile.
  5. Flexible− SAP Fiori makes it easy for the users to work in either their legacy SAP or in SAP S/4HANA. Users can start a process on one device and continue it on another.

The more than 2,000 SAP Fiori apps are divided into three categories based on their functions and infrastructure requirements:

  • Transactional apps: these allow users to complete frequently used SAP transactions on both mobile devices and desktop computers.
  • Fact sheets: they show the user information about important business objects in SAP.
  • Analytical apps: users can view aggregate data about the business, such as key performance indicators.

How to gain value from SAP Fiori

Companies using SAP Fiori see many benefits, including an increase in productivity, seamless workflows, improved mobility, easier onboarding of employees, and better employee satisfaction.

While the benefits are clear, the best way to gain value is to identify the top SAP transactions and top personas. For companies starting on their SAP Fiori journey, this video with SAP expert Arghadip Kar offers some foundational steps: Top three quick win SAP Fiori Apps.
