Meet the Experts
SAP is launching a range of new AI assistants called Joule Assistants across various business functions, including Finance, Supply Chain, HR, Procurement, and Customer Experience, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
The introduction of SAP Reltio within the SAP Business AI Platform addresses the challenge of fragmented data by providing a unified view of master data.
SAP Pay simplifies payment processing within SAP Cloud ERP applications by automating invoice payments and reconciliation.
Since the announcement of its Autonomous Enterprise vision at Sapphire in May 2026, SAP has steadily rolled out agents and assistants to allow customers meeting the appropriate licensing and architecture requirements to use AI in their SAP environments. At SAP Connect 2026 that spate of announcements continued with the launch of new assistants in the Finance, Supply Chain, HR, Procurement, and Customer Experience spaces – and the unexpected announcement of SAP Pay, a payment service, and anticipated news of SAP Reltio, to unify SAP and non-SAP data as part of SAP Business Data Cloud.
All these assistants, the word SAP uses for the user-facing coordinator and agent orchestrator that works with individual agents that work behind the scenes, are part of the SAP Autonomous Suite. The intent is for these assistants, which are designed to automate mission-critical workflows, is to “go beyond recommendations to execute the operational work businesses depend on every day”.
SAP CEO Christian Klein stated that the release of these assistants, “Is a breakthrough moment for business AI”. Klein went on to say that “The Autonomous Enterprise has arrived. With Joule and the SAP Autonomous Suite, built on SAP Business AI Platform, we’re helping organizations connect intelligence across every function to deliver trusted business outcomes.”
New Assistants for Each Line of Business
The newly announced Joule Assistants span all five pillars of the SAP Autonomous Suite: Autonomous Finance, Autonomous Supply Chain, Autonomous HCM, Autonomous Spend, and Autonomous Customer Experience. Each line of business featured one or more new Joule Assistants.
In finance, there were new assistants for Overhead Accounting, Revenue Recognition, Pricing, Disclosure, and Project Management, allowing finance teams to automate all these activities. In addition, SAP also announced Joule Assistants that expand GRC solutions including Access Governance and Security, Governance, and International Trade. Early implementations of the International Trade Assistant have reportedly helped reduced trade classification efforts by up to half.
In the supply chain space, the company announced new assistants for Product Design, Business Network, Supply Chain Planning, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Asset Operations. These are designed to allow planners to turn multi-hour disruptions into one-click resolutions across planning, manufacturing, and logistics. Additional innovations will be targeted at the manufacturing and asset-intensive industries to help them establish a hybrid, cloud-edge architecture for digital manufacturing and a unified user experience for asset and service management.
In the HR space, newly announced capabilities include a Workforce Planning assistant, an agentic admin console for US benefits, a benefits decision support tool, and integration of the WalkMe Learning Arc solution and SAP SuccessFactors Learning.
In procurement, new Joule Assistants were announced for Spend Analytics and Contingent Workforce. The first will help those working in procurement analyze spend data to identify opportunities for cost savings, compliance, supplier consolidation, and risk mitigation, while the workforce assistant will give procurement teams a way to mange the contingent-worker lifecycle.
Lastly, in Customer Experience, announcements included new capabilities in the existing Content and Campaign Assistants, new Joule Assistants for Incentive Compensation and Service Planning and Operations, and new capabilities in the Shopping Assistant and Quoting Assistant.
Not all of these assistants will be available immediately, with some launching into early adopter care over the next quarter, and others planned for general availability in Q4 2026 or Q1 2027.
SAP Business AI Platform and SAP Pay
The biggest announcement for SAP Business AI Platform is the new SAP Reltio which will be part of SAP Business Data Cloud. The solution, based on the Reltio acquisition earlier in 2026, is designed to unify fragmented data across SAP and non-SAP environments. Because businesses often have data that is fragmented across line-of-business (LoB) applications, entities such as customers, suppliers, products, or even employees can be represented by multiple records across different applications. SAP Reltio is designed to reconcile discrepancies in this data and deliver a single, trusted view.
Data and analytics leaders will be able to use the new solution to enrich master data with context from additional sources, for example supplier data in SAP Ariba, so that AI agents can operate with a complete business context. This is part of creating a trusted foundation for AI.
A somewhat unexpected announcement, given SAP’s existing partnerships with multiple payment providers, is the announcement of SAP Pay. Announced and generally available immediately in the United States and the United Kingdom, SAP Pay is a payment service that is embedded directly into the workflow in SAP Cloud ERP applications. SAP Pay is powered by Tereina, a regulated payment-service provide founded in April 2026 by SAP specifically so that the company could enter the payments market.
SAP indicated that traditional payment processes have required a separate banking platform, file transfers, third-party middleware, and post payment reconciliation. SAP Pay is designed to remove some of that complexity. For example, when an invoice is approved in SAP Cloud ERP, SAP Pay will automatically execute payment and reconcile it against the corresponding invoice or purchase order.
The new service will support payments via EFT, including ACH, wire and check, as well as stablecoin-based settlements for cross-border transactions. What is notably missing from that list is any support for credit card payments, something that is becoming more commonly used than traditional EFT. Whether this is because Tereina is not licensed to support that kind of payment activity or it is a choice being made on SAP’s part is unclear.
Despite SAP’s statements that one of the complexities of existing payment processes is that they require a separate banking platform, SAP Pay will require the SAP Multi-Bank Connectivity Addon. This makes sense given that the application is intended to immediately process approved payments including across borders.
What This Means for SAPinsiders
Despite the criticism that many of SAP’s AI capabilities are inaccessible for much of their customer base, the company continues to push forward with it’s existing approach of rolling out Joule Assistants, and the supporting agents, as part of the SAP Autonomous Suite. With the number of assistants being launched this week, the company appears well on track to meet their stated goals for 2026, although a significant proportion will not reach general availability until 2027.
In addition, the language at SAP Connect continues to focus on that of the Autonomous Enterprise even while there is growing concern globally about the actions being taken by AI agents. SAP itself was recently part of the call for collective action around cyber defense, along with over 100 other technology companies, and last week was one of the industry leaders that formed a new alliance with NVIDIA to build and share open tools that promote the responsible use of and trust in AI. This includes plans to bring SAP Business AI Platform together with NVIDIA OpenShell to work towards governance and security for auditable AI agents.
SAPinsiders looking to use AI, and particularly the rapidly expanding range of Joule Assistants, will need put in place the right licensing agreements to allow them to do so. This starts with SAP Cloud ERP but may require other licenses depending on the LoB applications in use and whether the organization wants to use Joule Work, Joule Studio, Joule for Developers, or other AI capabilities.
