PwC is a large provider of SAP services from strategy to implementation, particularly when it comes to SAP S/4HANA and many of the latest SAP offerings. Now, the consultancy can point to itself as a proof point of an SAP transformation, as PwC has recently gone live with SAP Cloud ERP.
In a press release, SAP called PwC’s project “one of the largest global ERP transformations,” which reaches over 100,000 employees across 19 countries. SAP Cloud ERP is one of the many products in SAP Business Suite that PwC implemented as part of its transformation. Others included SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), SAP Concur, SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Datasphere, SAP Advanced Financial Closing, group reporting, SAP Risk & Assurance Management, and SAP Enable Now.
The journey will sound familiar to many SAP customers as PwC replaced its legacy SAP ECC software, which SAP describes as “highly customized.” Other SAP and third-party applications were also replaced, and SAP notes that PwC is using Joule Copilot and SAP Business AI.
A Large-Scale Proof Point
This is more than just an internal transformation for PwC, it’s also a proof point for customers in its SAP practice. It’s also an opportunity for co-innovation, as PwC’s SAP Managed Services team intends to work with SAP on data management and analytics enhancements within SAP Business Data Cloud.
Many SAP ECC customers and those on early SAP S/4HANA editions are facing an upcoming end of mainstream maintenance deadline, which was the top driver for SAP S/4HANA adoption,
according to SAPinsider’s Deployment Approaches to SAP S/4HANA 2025 report. The market for SAP ERP Cloud and SAP S/4HANA Cloud is large with a sprawling ecosystem of service providers. With this transformation, PwC can provide a customer success story that also demonstrates its understanding of the challenges its SAP practice customers face in their SAP Cloud ERP and SAP S/4HANA journeys.
What This Means for SAPinsiders
Standardization is possible at a large scale. SAP Cloud ERP comes with best practice-driven set of preconfigured processes, which stands in contrast to many highly customized systems that many SAP ECC deployments. An organization the size of PwC choosing this deployment route shows that preconfigured processes can work in multinational companies with tens of thousands of employees.
Analytics and Data Management are as important as the ERP transformation. A new, standardized ERP will offer much more in the way of clean, actionable data. PwC implemented SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere alongside SAP ERP Cloud. That’s important, as insights from the data flowing through the ERP will go a long way in providing return on investment for the project.
SAP’s cloud offerings are a prerequisite for embedded AI functionality. Those looking for embedded AI in their SAP software will need to adopt SAP’s cloud tools, such as SAP S/4HANA Cloud and cloud-based line of business products. With this implementation, PwC will not only be using SAP Business AI and Joule but will also have access to embedded AI capabilities.
