As part of the 49ers sustainability initiative, the Executive Huddle presented by SAP was upgraded this season with new capabilities allowing the team to monitor Levi’s Stadium utility usage, allowing them to monitor consumption of water and gas.
To get access to real-time utility data, six 3D-printed water and gas meter readers that feed data directly into the Executive Huddle were installed. To get data from the meters into the HANA Cloud system and available in the SAC Digital Boardroom, pictures of those meters are taken and converted into data. Cameras and Raspberry Pi devices are used that take a picture every minute and send this data to a Google Cloud storage bucket. Those cameras and Raspberry Pi devices are built into a 3D-printed customized housing for each meter. The housing is removable, as meters also need to be accessed by the utility companies. Once the pictures arrive in the storage bucket, they get processed by a Python script which translates the pictures into data. This data is loaded into SAP BTP HANA cloud and stored there. Some additional calculations are done on HANA Cloud in order to calculate the consumption in that time interval. All data is processed and then visualized in an SAC dashboard.
