SAPinsider events have been the most widely attended, independent networking and knowledge-sharing events in the SAP technology ecosystem for decades. After taking a hiatus from in-person events for a couple of years, due to the pandemic, SAPinsider was back with a bang this year.
SAPinsider 2022 saw 3000+ members in attendance in Vegas in July 2022. As always, the amount of knowledge shared in the sessions was enormous. While the data and analytics track had 20+ sessions, each session was unique and informative in its own way. However, at a high level, we saw that sessions were following a few key themes this year. We explore those themes in this article.
Cloud is the way to go: This should be news for SAPinsiders that SAP sees the future of its applications in the cloud. More and more of its applications, like SAP Analytics Cloud, are becoming cloud-native. SAPinsider research like The Future of Business Intelligence and Analytics in The Cloud also brought the prominence of the cloud in the data and analytics domain to the forefront. SAP also has forged partnerships with hyperscalers like AWS and Azure to accelerate the cloud journey for its customers. And we saw this trend emerge in the sessions in the data and analytics track in SAPinsider 2022.
Therefore, this category focused on the techno-strategy aspects of the journey to the cloud. The following sessions were focused on helping SAPinsiders with knowledge and roadmaps to help facilitate their journey to the cloud:
- Experience your S/4HANA business process transformation on AWS
- Transform your value chain by migrating to the cloud
- SAP Data Warehouse Cloud and SAP Analytics Cloud: Better Together
Building depth in analytics: SAP tools are robust, best-of-breed, but expensive. When companies invest a significant amount in tools that can provide value, it is common sense to invest time and energy in understanding how to extract the most from these tools. This was another area where we saw sessions focused on. Examples of such sessions are:
- Hands-on Lab: Tips for financial report writing with SAP Analytics Cloud
- Building better models in SAP Analytics Cloud
- Explore advanced functions with predictive analytics, geo maps, and R visualizations
- Gaining faster results with SAP Analytics Cloud pre-built content packages
- Optimizing SAP Analytics cloud using augmented analytics
- Unlocking business insights through advanced analytics in SAP Analytics Cloud
Data as the foundation: SAPinsider research like The Future of Business Intelligence and Analytics in The Cloud highlighted that SAPinsiders view building foundational data capabilities as a critical first step to leveraging the most from their investment in analytics tools and technologies. It is, therefore, not surprising that we had many sessions focused on helping customers build this foundational capability. Examples of these sessions are:
- Optimizing SAP data management with AI and Machine Learning
- Putting the Ops in DataOps: Data pipeline orchestration at scale
- The "Beyond ERP" challenge: Maximizing the use of SAP with your company's data lake
- Tune your data governance strategy to maximize data value while minimizing data risk
- Warm data migration as a service using SAP NSE
Exploring the future: It should not surprise anyone that the data and analytics space continues to evolve rapidly. Hence, while it is important to understand where things are at right now, it is also critical to keep an eye on the horizon. The good news is that there were plenty of sessions on roadmaps and future exploration, providing SAPinsiders attending these sessions a peek into how the world of data and analytics may evolve in the future. Examples of such sessions are:
- A fireside chat: Decision intelligence: What's next in data and analytics
- A detailed look at the latest SAP Analytics Cloud strategy
