RISE with SAP
RISE with SAP is SAP’s flagship cloud transformation package, designed to help organizations migrate to SAP S/4HANA Cloud through a single contract that bundles software, services and infrastructure. As SAP accelerates its push toward cloud ERP, understanding what RISE with SAP includes and how it aligns with organizational goals is a top priority for technology executives and project teams. What is RISE with SAP?
RISE with SAP is a subscription-based offering that packages SAP S/4HANA Cloud with SAP Business Network, business process intelligence, technical migration services and SAP Business Technology Platform consumption credits. The package is designed to lower the complexity of moving to cloud ERP by providing a single point of accountability from SAP. According to SAPinsider‘s RISE with SAP 2025 Benchmark Report, smaller organizations are currently twice as likely to be live on the solution compared to larger enterprises, which remain predominantly in the planning or exploration phases.
What use cases does RISE with SAP address?
- Cloud ERP migration: Organizations use RISE with SAP to transition from SAP ECC or other legacy ERP systems to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition with SAP-managed infrastructure and migration tooling.
- Process transformation: RISE with SAP integrates SAP Signavio and business process intelligence capabilities, enabling organizations to identify and redesign inefficient processes before and after migration. Nearly half of SAPinsider survey respondents see RISE playing a process transformation role in their S/4HANA projects.
- AI-enabled ERP: The premium plus tier of RISE with SAP includes generative AI capabilities embedded in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP Datasphere and office of the CFO tools, supporting intelligent automation across finance, operations and planning.
- Infrastructure simplification: RISE with SAP shifts infrastructure management to SAP, reducing the operational burden on internal IT teams and enabling organizations to focus on application optimization rather than underlying systems.
What does SAPinsider research say about RISE with SAP adoption?
SAPinsider‘s 2025 RISE with SAP Benchmark Report shows that while adoption is accelerating ahead of SAP’s 2027 ECC end-of-mainstream-maintenance deadline, cost concerns and unclear business value remain the top barriers. SAP’s dedicated transition support and license conversion credits are the primary drivers for migration. The report also flags growing demand for generative AI within the package and warns of a potential shortage of skilled implementation resources. Webinar: RISE with SAP 2023Over the last two years, RISE with SAP went from being a somewhat confusing business-transformation-as-a-service offering to the core of SAP’s cloud ERP strategy. To further demonstrate the value of the offering, SAP recently announced RISE with SAP Premium Plus. It provides access to a new embedded generative AI assistant called Joule, new sustainability features, and advanced finance and cash flow capabilities. SAP also revealed that there are now more than 4,300 RISE with SAP customers. But does RISE with SAP resonate in the broader SAP community? This report will focus on what organizations currently understand about RISE with SAP, the concerns they have, and the offering fits into their needs for ERP and innovation.
The survey asked the respondents to about their familiarity with RISE with SAP, how much they know about the components of RISE with SAP, what about RISE with SAP provides the most benefit, how they plan on selecting a cloud service provider for RISE with SAP, and what the biggest factors are impacting their plans for ERP and innovation. When SAPinsider first started researching RISE with SAP there was limited knowledge about the offering, and a significant proportion of respondents claimed to know little about it. That changed over the last two years, and this year only 7% of respondents reported that they were not at all familiar with RISE with SAP.

Cloud Success Drives Strong 2023 for SAP2023 was an extremely successful year for SAP. Despite facing “an adverse macroeconomic environment,” as described by CFO Dominik Asam, SAP saw significant increases in total revenue, cloud and software revenue, cloud revenue, SAP S/4HANA revenue, and operating profit for the full fiscal year. Even though the earnings per share (EPS) missed the market goals, IFRS basic EPS also increased by 10% year-over-year, demonstrating a strong performance.
SAP CEO Christian Klein highlighted that current cloud backlog increased by 27% to €13.745 billion, driven by 25% cloud revenue growth at constant currencies for the fourth quarter. Additionally, total cloud backlog increased by 39% to €44 billion, a significant growth that signifies a huge platform for future success. The strong quarter has driven SAP to update their 2025 ambitions, which starts with an ambitious goal of €17 billion in cloud revenue for 2024 and an aspiration of hitting €21.5 billion in 2025.
Despite these successes, Klein started the earnings call with SAP’s plans for a new transformation program that will shift investments to more strategic growth areas like business AI, where SAP hopes to implement AI-driven solutions to enhance overall business efficiency. As Klein stated, “SAP will completely embed AI in our solutions. We will make it readily available for end-users and connect it with business processes. This will tremendously boost the capabilities of our solutions. It will also fundamentally change how users work with our systems.”
Also, as SAP pivots to embedding AI in all their solutions, SAPinsiders will need to consume solutions according to their needs. While generative AI assistant Joule is SAP’s most prominent AI initiative, customers need to license separate instances for each application it will be used for as there is no central contract for Joule. It is too early to tell whether this will be the same or different for future AI use cases, but it is crucial for organizations to understand what they want to achieve and what is most important to their success as they plan for the future.

SAPinsider Buyers Guide Webinar: RISE with SAPRISE with SAP is the focus of SAP’s cloud ERP strategy. Combining SAP S/4HANA Cloud with process transformation capabilities from SAP Signavio and business platform and extension capabilities from SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), RISE with SAP is intended to provide a platform for future innovation for SAP customers. This year, SAP enriched the offering with generative AI, sustainability, and financial innovations targeted at the office of the CFO. These include cash management, receivables management, group reporting data collection, and SAP Analytics Cloud Planning. SAP positions RISE with SAP as a pivotal tool for businesses to transition to a cloud-based ERP. More than providing a framework for moving to the cloud, RISE with SAP facilitates the entire transition process.
Over the past two years, this service has transformed significantly. Initially launched as a licensing package centered around SAP S/4HANA Cloud, it has now matured into a more holistic solution, primarily aimed at fostering business innovation and providing the necessary tools to realize this ambition. When it was released, RISE with SAP aimed to bring together newly acquired business process intelligence tool with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, offering a comprehensive package that included technical services, cloud infrastructure, and a platform that facilitated extending ERP functionality. While the overall makeup of the solution has not changed significantly, there is now greater emphasis on supporting new business models, improving process efficiency, and modernizing critical systems without disruption and fostering business innovation, with SAP BTP serving as the key driver.
