Key Takeaways

⇨ PBS Software has introduced PBS NAA, a new concept for keeping ERP data accessible despite the change to S/4HANA.

⇨ The legacy data (DB and archive) from one or more ERP systems are imported into a nearline database and all data is transferred, customizing master and transaction data.

⇨ Small and medium-sized companies are able to save their ERP in the original format to S/4 without placing a burden on the new HANA database.

In a recent article with SAPinsider, PBS Software provided insight into its PBS NAA, a new concept for keeping ERP data accessible despite the change to S/4HANA.

The legacy data (DB and archive) from one or more ERP systems are imported into a nearline database and all data is transferred, customizing master and transaction data.

As a result, small and medium-sized companies are able to save their ERP in the original format to S/4 without placing a burden on the new HANA database. All that is required for the process is a current S/4HANA system to which the NAA nearline database can be easily connected. From this S/4, users can access the legacy data via their usual, customized SAP standard transactions.

With the NAA solution, business management relationships remain intact, according to PBS. In an instance where an organization may want to decommission an ERP system that is no longer used productively, with PBS NAA, organizations can acquire the respective salary statement as it looked in the original at the time of the system decommissioning.

Transactions that are structured in the same way as any familiar transactions are used to call up the data from legacy systems, with no need for training.

In addition to the transactions and reports, a query tool is available that allows users to create complex queries with a simple click. PBS says even the largest data volumes can be analyzed with extremely high performance, as the nearline database works in a column-oriented format.

The new PBS solution features legacy data, which is provided in S/4 – without losing the business context, data analysis including transactions/reports, ad-hoc queries and programming API. In addition, it has data protection to support the SAP authorization concept, preparation for ERP system decommissioning and a simple installation with minimal resources and administration required.
