Kemira Partners with CBS to Implement Cloud TransformationKemira, a Finnish chemical company, undertook a significant digital transformation by transitioning its SAP ERP system to SAP S/4HANA private cloud, in response to the impending end of support for their existing ECC suite by 2027. The transformation, crucial for maintaining system support and embracing new digital business models, involved a comprehensive upgrade starting with a preliminary study to decide which processes to retain or redesign for the cloud architecture. This move to SAP S/4HANA allowed Kemira to adopt more efficient organizational practices and prepare for future technological advancements. The technical implementation was supported by a longstanding relationship with consultancy firm cbs, which aided in exploring various transition scenarios. The project, named LEAP, digitized all business processes and spanned Kemira’s global operations across 63 production sites in over 100 countries. It included key initiatives such as redesigning financial accounting, implementing SAP Datasphere, and transitioning on-premise interfaces to the SAP Integration Suite, all going live simultaneously in a "big bang" approach that ensured minimal operational disruption. The migration strategy employed the cbs ET Enterprise Transformer software for a selective data transition, efficiently managing the migration of extensive data and system users globally, thereby positioning Kemira as a leader in cloud-based solutions within the chemical industry.
