Process automation technologies have increasingly evolved into strategic solutions during the last few years. In their responses to the SAPinsider Process Automation and SAP S/4HANA research conducted in April 2022, SAPinsiders highlighted supply chain as one of the top focus functions for process automation. To explore this focus further, we surveyed 106 members of our community between July and September 2022. Supply chain resiliency and agility are on top of the mind of SAPinsiders, as highlighted in their responses. SAPinsiders believe that process automation in the supply chain can help them build capabilities to address their resiliency and agility drivers. SAPinsiders consider process automation in the supply chain as a critical capability necessary for building robust supply chain capabilities required for today’s complex supply chains. Since 31% of respondents to the survey were from the EMEA region, we decided to explore the insights from this region separately. You can download the full research report here.
Though the challenges with the supply chains and current process automation solutions remain the same, overall, EMEA respondents indicated that they focus more on building supply chain efficiency, resiliency, and agility. Unlike the global view, the need for efficient supply chains was among the top three drivers for EMEA respondents, as shown in figure 1. Reducing uncertainty is another key focus area for EMEA respondents. They aim to leverage process optimization and better demand planning strategies to build efficiency and improve certainty in their supply chain operations. The internal skill set was ranked higher among the current state challenges, as compared to the global view, that EMEA respondents have when it comes to building robust process automation capabilities in their supply chains.
