Key Takeaways

⇨ Tech Mahindra has launched a Center of Excellence powered by NVIDIA platforms to enhance the development of sovereign large language models and agentic AI across various sectors, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to deliver tailored enterprise-grade AI solutions.

⇨ The collaboration between Tech Mahindra and NVIDIA aims to drive AI innovation, highlighted by initiatives like Project Indus 2.0, which focuses on developing advanced language models for Hindi and its dialects to support diverse industries.

⇨ SAP organizations are still refining their AI strategies, with 67% indicating that their AI objectives are either partially defined or being redefined, illustrating the evolving nature of AI adoption amid rapid technological advancements and competitive pressures.

SAP Global Strategic Service Partner Tech Mahindra (NSE: TECHM), a global provider of technology consulting and digital solutions to enterprises across industries, recently announced the establishment of a Center of Excellence (CoE) powered by NVIDIA platforms to drive advancements in sovereign large language model (LLM) frameworks, agentic AI, and physical AI.

Based on the Tech Mahindra Optimized Framework, the CoE leverages the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform — including NVIDIA NeMo, NVIDIA NIM microservices and NVIDIA RAPIDS — to offer customized, enterprise-grade AI applications to help its clients adopt agentic AI in their businesses. Agentic AI significantly improves productivity by enabling AI applications to learn, reason, and take action. The CoE also uses the NVIDIA Omniverse platform to develop connected industrial AI digital twins and physical AI applications across various sectors, including manufacturing, automotive, telecommunications, healthcare, banking, financial services and insurance.

Recent SAPinsider research indicates that SAP organizations are still calibrating their strategic objectives around AI. In the research report, AI: State of Adoption 2024, more than two-thirds (67%) of companies reported that AI objectives are at best partially defined within corporate strategic plans or these AI objectives are actively being redefined. This indicates that AI strategies are still evolving, driven by rapid advancements in AI technology, changing market dynamics, and the need to stay competitive.

NVIDIA is also a direct partner of SAP. SAP unveiled generative AI efforts at its most recent Sapphire Orlando event featuring NVIDIA AI Enterprise software to offer two new capabilities for Joule, SAP’s generative AI copilot — SAP Consulting capabilities and ABAP Developer capabilities. To help streamline the selling and buying process of complex products, SAP is also integrating NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud application programming interfaces, or APIs, into its Intelligent Product Recommendation solution. This will enable salespeople to visualize 3D product digital twins directly in SAP Intelligent Product Recommendation. NVIDIA Omniverse, based on OpenUSD, lets users simulate how configurable equipment might physically fit into and operate in the real world, saving time and costs while improving efficiency and safety.

Leveraging the capabilities of the CoE, Tech Mahindra has also developed Project Indus 2.0, an advanced AI model powered by NVIDIA NeMo based on Hindi and dozens of its dialects, such as Bhojpuri, Dogri, and Maithili. Project Indus 2.0 caters to diverse sectors, including retail, banking, healthcare, and citizen services, in India. It stands out as a state-of-the-art LLM that advances Hindi and dialect conversations. In the future, Indus 2.0 aims to include agentic workflows and support multiple dialects to provide a more nuanced and effective AI solution tailored to India’s diverse linguistic and cultural landscape.

Atul Soneja, Chief Operating Officer, Tech Mahindra, said, “At Tech Mahindra, we are redefining the boundaries of AI innovation. Collaborating with NVIDIA, we are setting a new benchmark for enterprise-grade AI development by seamlessly integrating GenAI, industrial AI and sovereign large language models into the heart of global enterprises and industries.”

Tech Mahindra will also leverage the new NVIDIA NIM Agent Blueprint for customer service to help call center clients build custom AI virtual assistants that can aid human agents in rapidly resolving issues.

John Fanelli, Vice President, Enterprise Software at NVIDIA, said, “Built with NVIDIA technology, Tech Mahindra’s Center of Excellence will accelerate the development and adoption of sovereign AI LLMs and applications tailored for India’s diverse industries and linguistic landscape. Our collaboration with Tech Mahindra is helping create a foundation for AI-driven innovation in the region and around the world.”

The CoE, located within Tech Mahindra’s Makers Lab in Pune and Hyderabad, is a significant step in the organization’s efforts to bring GenAI, LLMs, and digital twins into mainstream use, providing solutions for enterprises and end users.

What this means for SAPinsiders

Participate in SAPinsider research. SAPinsider will be publishing a research report in December on AI in the Supply Chain that will explore the key drivers causing companies to adopt AI in supply chain, the primary strategies companies are deploying to operationalize AI in supply chain, the critical underlying capabilities that must be in place in order for AI to deliver durable outcomes, and the leading technology tools and providers companies are using to embed AI into supply chain processes and systems. Take the survey today and let your voice be heard!

Leverage NVIDIA’s pre-built AI frameworks and models. NVIDIA AI Enterprise, compatible with SAP BTP, offers a suite of AI tools, including frameworks for image recognition, NLP, and recommendation engines. SAP customers can leverage these pre-trained models and frameworks to expedite AI development, integrating these capabilities directly into their SAP environments, such as SAP S/4HANA for predictive analytics or demand forecasting. Also, NVIDIA provides specialized models for industries like retail, manufacturing, and healthcare, aligning well with SAP’s diverse customer base. By adopting NVIDIA’s tailored solutions, SAP customers can build industry-relevant AI capabilities more effectively, adding sophisticated functionalities like real-time demand forecasting or supply chain optimization.

Tech Mahindra’s process automation pedigree will buttress CoE. Tech Mahindra has provided AI-driven robotic process automation (RPA) and intelligent automation tools that integrate with SAP environments, helping customers automate repetitive, rule-based processes. For example, they can automate invoice processing, data entry, and other administrative tasks within SAP S/4HANA, reducing human intervention and improving accuracy. By using AI-powered RPA alongside SAP, businesses can streamline operational tasks and increase productivity, which is especially valuable for high-volume processes such as order management and supply chain operations.
