SAP Makes Four Migration and Modernization Assistants Available to Early Adopters

SAP announced that four of its migration and modernization assistants are available to early adopter customers and already support live cloud ERP transformation projects. The assistants cover data management, test management, custom code modernization, and business configuration.

Cloud ERP transformation programs can involve numerous stakeholders and thousands of business and technical decisions. The assistants target specific workstreams in that effort, analyzing a customer’s data, processes, or code and then recommending or applying changes. At SAP Sapphire earlier this year, the company introduced agent-led transformation tooling and outlined how the assistants can reduce ERP migration effort.

Available Assistants Support Data, Testing, Code, and Configuration Work

Each assistant works from a different kind of project material, such as data quality metrics, user stories, custom code, or source configurations, and returns recommendations, corrections, test cases, or configurations.

Data Management Assistant

The Data Management Assistant analyzes data quality metrics, prioritizes issues by business impact, recommends remediation, and helps execute it through automated and guided approaches. AkzoNobel, a paints and coatings company on a RISE with SAP journey, is in the SAP Early Adopter Care program and uses it to define data quality scope and prioritize remediation.

Thilak Selvam, master data program lead at AkzoNobel, said the Data Management Assistant “gave us clear visibility into our most business-critical data quality issues.”

Test Management Assistant

The Test Management Assistant analyzes business processes, requirements, and user stories to help define test scope, identify critical business scenarios, generate test cases, and determine the test data needed to run them. It hands the cases to SAP Test Automation by Tricentis for automated execution.

Custom Code Assistant

The Custom Code Assistant supports the transition to SAP Cloud ERP Private. Acting autonomously, it classifies findings by complexity, applies available automated fixes, and generates recommendations and code corrections for the remaining findings.

It also aligns extensions with clean core principles and SAP-recommended APIs, continues to support clean core compliance after the initial migration, and helps customers decide where standard processes apply and where custom extensions provide business differentiation.

Business Configuration Assistant

The Business Configuration Assistant recommends configurations for a customer’s industry, segment, and goals, then applies them autonomously where permitted. It also flags deviations from SAP target requirements and keeps an audit trail.

Planned Assistants Cover System Analysis, Project Management, and Rollout

SAP lists the assistants under Joule, its family of AI assistants and agents, and aims for AI support in every phase of an ERP transformation, from system assessment through implementation and go-live.

System Analysis Assistant

A System Analysis Assistant is planned to build a customer-specific understanding of existing systems, configurations, and custom developments. SAP describes it as the basis for the other assistants, grounded in customer-specific system data.

Project Management Assistant

A Project Management Assistant is planned to provide real-time project insights and identify risks proactively. Its role includes helping orchestrate project activities across teams and stakeholders.

Rollout Assistant

A Rollout Assistant is planned to align global templates with regional requirements. SAP describes the aim as speeding local rollouts while reducing effort for business and IT teams through AI-driven guidance.

What This Means for SAPinsiders

Transformation tooling now carries out work. The Custom Code Assistant applies available fixes and the Business Configuration Assistant applies configurations where permitted, and SAP describes each as acting autonomously. Cloud ERP transformation is starting to include software that acts inside the project, alongside the teams that run it.

A customer-specific system model sits at the center. SAP describes the planned System Analysis Assistant as the basis for the other assistants, grounded in customer-specific system data. The design treats knowledge of one landscape as the base for the rest of the toolset, which ties the quality of guidance to the quality of that system picture.

Clean core becomes an ongoing discipline. SAP describes the Custom Code Assistant as supporting clean core compliance after the initial migration as well. Decisions about where standard processes apply and where custom extensions earn their place continue once the system is live.
