Meet the Authors
NTT DATA is transforming its HR systems using SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Business Data Cloud, and Joule internally, demonstrating a practical application of its own SAP implementation expertise.
This internal project provides NTT DATA with firsthand experience, enhancing its credibility and ability to guide clients through AI-driven HR transformations with SAP solutions.
The 12-month internal rollout serves as a valuable benchmark for other SAP teams, illustrating a sequenced approach where core ERP modernization precedes advanced HR and AI layers.
NTT DATA has selected SAP SuccessFactors solutions and SAP Business Data Cloud, integrated with Joule, SAP’s AI orchestrator, to run its own global People and Culture transformation. The selection extends a partnership between NTT DATA and SAP spanning more than 36 years, one in which NTT DATA holds status as an SAP platinum partner, global service partner, and global reseller. As a SAP Global Strategic Service Partner operating in more than 40 countries, NTT DATA delivers consulting, business transformation, and managed services built on RISE with SAP, GROW with SAP, and SAP Business AI. The new HR deployment puts that same SAP implementation portfolio to work inside the firm’s own operations.
Inside NTT DATA’s Own AI-Driven HR Transformation
The project targets a specific problem: multiple legacy HR systems spread across NTT DATA’s global organization. SAP SuccessFactors solutions, combined with SAP Business Data Cloud and Joule, are meant to replace those systems as part of NTT DATA’s global People and Culture transformation. SAP Business Data Cloud functions as a consolidation layer for enterprise data, giving analytics and AI tools a single set of records instead of fragments scattered across business units. Joule serves as SAP’s AI orchestrator, a role it plays across SAP’s broader cloud application suite.
NTT DATA plans to complete the rollout over a 12-month period, applying its own SAP expertise to design and deploy the platform rather than relying solely on an external delivery team. The goal is a single, authoritative source of HR data and processes, intended to support faster and more consistent HR services across the organization. That goal builds on a prior step: in 2025, NTT DATA adopted SAP Cloud ERP Private solutions to modernize its core systems. The HR project follows that ERP move rather than running alongside it, pointing to a sequenced approach in which core financial and operational systems are stabilized before HR and data layers are added.
What the Internal Rollout Signals for SAP Implementation Clients
NTT DATA Business Solutions, the entity most directly engaged in client-facing SAP work, has more than 30 years of experience providing SAP consulting services worldwide. Its project-based services span enterprise and solution architecture, application implementation, and transition and landscape transformation. For organizations moving toward SAP S/4HANA, the firm supports new implementations, conversions, and landscape transformations across private, public, or hybrid cloud environments, including engagements built on RISE with SAP. NTT DATA describes its project approach as client-centered and transparent, keeping customers informed of project status from start to finish.
NTT DATA has said that leading its own SuccessFactors, Business Data Cloud, and Joule implementation strengthens its ability to guide clients through AI-driven HR transformation, since the firm gains firsthand experience with the solutions it delivers. The 12-month internal timeline gives SAP program teams elsewhere a reference point for how long a comparable SuccessFactors and Business Data Cloud rollout might take.
What This Means for SAPinsiders
Partners are testing AI HR tools on themselves first. Buyers evaluating SAP implementation partners may increasingly ask whether a firm has run the same SuccessFactors, Business Data Cloud, and Joule stack internally before committing budget to it. Firsthand internal use offers a data point that a sales presentation alone cannot provide.
A sequenced ERP-then-HR rollout points to phased AI roadmaps. SAP teams planning modernization should anticipate multi-phase sequencing, with core ERP systems stabilized first and HCM, data, and AI layers added afterward. Treating the two as a single combined project may understate the coordination required between them.
A 12-month internal timeline sets a delivery benchmark. Program teams weighing similar SuccessFactors and Business Data Cloud deployments now have a reference window for staffing and governance planning. Comparing internal delivery speed against that benchmark can help teams stress-test their own project schedules before committing resources.
