Key Takeaways

⇨ NTT DATA has launched the 'SAP integration with SiGREEN' solution on the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace, enhancing carbon emission management for manufacturers by automating the integration of product master data from SAP S/4 HANA.

⇨ The SiGREEN tool allows organizations to make data-driven decisions on their decarbonization strategies, providing actual emissions data, compliance with industry standards, and verifiable results across the entire value chain.

⇨ There is a growing emphasis on using real-time data and advanced analytics for decision-making in enterprise settings, driven by demands for agility, responsiveness, and cost control in data management.

One of SAP’s largest Global Strategic Service Partners, NTT DATA, a global digital business and IT services leader, recently announced the launch of its latest solution, “SAP integration with SiGREEN”, as part of the Siemens Xcelerator business platform. Siemens, a global technology company, provides the SiGREEN carbon emission management tool that empowers companies to make data-driven decisions on their decarbonization strategy.

NTT DATA’s solution for carbon emission data caters well to many modern companies’ goal to become a data-driven enterprise, which can be defined as an organization that prioritizes the use of data as a fundamental element of its strategic decision-making processes. Defining attributes include:

  • Data sets are consolidated into a unified architecture to provide a comprehensive view
  • Employs advanced analytical tools and technologies to extract insights from data
  • Culture of data literacy
  • Decision-making processes are predominantly based on data analysis
  • Adopts predictive analytics to forecast future trends and behaviors
  • Data governance frameworks are in place to ensure data quality, privacy, and compliance

Recent SAPinsider research suggests a growing emphasis on agility and responsiveness in leveraging data for decision-making. The research report Data Management Strategies revealed that increasing demand to provide fast, real-time data (47%) emerged as the top driving factor for data management improvement initiatives, while almost 44% cited IT budget pressures to keep capital and operating costs under control as a significant driver.

Crucial master data about products is often maintained in ERP systems. This information needs to be shared with SiGREEN, and an automated data flow can be established by connecting SiGREEN to the ERP systems.

As SAP S/4 HANA is one of the widely used ERP systems, NTT DATA developed its “SAP integration with SiGREEN” solution to help manufacturers efficiently connect product master data in SAP S/4 HANA with SiGREEN. A proof-of-concept at Swiss Innovation Park Biel/Bienne successfully validated the solution’s ability to automate the end-to-end product data integration process between SAP S/4 HANA and SiGREEN.

The ‘Catena-X ready’ SiGREEN solution enables auto manufacturers to connect with trusted business partners to gather emissions data from their value chain. NTT DATA along with NTT Communications, is committed to helping automotive clients securely connect to Catena-X and make data-driven decisions that reduce their product carbon footprints.

The combined solution will be available to customers as part of the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace. Siemens Xcelerator is an open digital business platform and marketplace with the ambition to create a powerful ecosystem of partners who can jointly accelerate digital transformation tailored to customers’ specific business goals.

NTT DATA has committed to partnering with clients and stakeholders to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable future. The company’s end-to-end Sustainability services are designed to support clients at every step of their journey.

SiGREEN simplifies the management of product-level emissions, also known as the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF). It allows companies to manage and reduce emissions along the entire value chain.

  • Actual Data – The aggregation of up-to-date and actual emission data along the value chain enables the determination of a ‘dynamic’ carbon footprint, which can be used to identify emission hotspots and to quantify improvements more accurately.
  • Standard Conformant – SiGREEN is conformant with all relevant industry standards, including Catena-X for automotive, Together for Sustainability for chemistry, as well as ISO and PACT. This industry agnostic approach allows for the cross-industry collaboration needed for product decarbonization.
  • Verifiable results – Companies can determine the complete emissions data of their products and verify them within established standards. Thus, carbon footprints can be verified at every stage of the value chain.

“We are excited to launch the ‘SAP integration with SiGREEN’ solution on the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace, a pivotal step towards accelerating the decarbonization of industries. We are committed to helping our clients utilize this solution to make accurate data-driven decisions on reducing their product’s carbon footprint across the value chain. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Siemens to develop new solutions that will help customers scale SiGREEN software and accelerate their transition towards a sustainable future.” says Hidehiko Tanaka, Head of Technology and Innovation, NTT DATA.

“We are thrilled to partner with NTT DATA in launching the ‘SAP integration with SiGREEN’ solution. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in our mission to drive decarbonization in the automotive industry. By seamlessly connecting SAP S/4 HANA with SiGREEN, we empower companies to manage their product’s carbon footprints and make data-driven decisions for a sustainable future. We are committed to continuing our work with NTT DATA to develop innovative solutions that enable our customers to scale their sustainability efforts and achieve their decarbonization goals.” says Gunter Beitinger, Senior Vice President Manufacturing at Siemens Digital Industries and founder of SiGREEN.

What this means for SAPinsiders

Share your data management strategies. The focus on enterprise data management is intensifying with the proliferation of 5G, IoT, AI/ML and other transformative technologies. SAP customers are increasingly looking for new data management models for the storage, migration, integration, governance, protection, transformation, and processing of all kinds of data ranging from transactional to analytical. Balancing the risks, compliance needs, and costs of data management in SAP HANA on-premise and on the cloud while also providing reliable, secure data to the organization is increasingly important to the business We will be releasing the 2025 Data Management Strategies research report in February 2025. Don’t overlook complementary carbon-tracking capabilities in SAP IBP. SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) enables companies to forecast emissions across their supply chain and assess the impact of changes in procurement, logistics, or production on carbon footprint. By aligning supply chain activities with sustainability objectives, SAP customers can make more informed decisions that prioritize emissions reduction. With IBP, companies can optimize inventory, production, and transportation in ways that reduce unnecessary energy consumption and emissions. For example, by adjusting transportation routes or consolidating shipments, companies can reduce logistics-related emissions.

Report and benchmark with sustainability-controlled KPIs. SAP customers can establish sustainability KPIs within SAP systems and use SAP Analytics Cloud to monitor them regularly. For example, KPIs might include CO₂ emissions per product or energy consumption per unit produced. By benchmarking performance, companies can identify trends, set targets, and measure progress on decarbonization. SAP solutions support regulatory and voluntary sustainability reporting frameworks, like the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and CDP. Leveraging these capabilities enables SAP customers to ensure transparency and alignment with global sustainability standards.
