Meet the Authors
NCR Voyix combines cloud and edge processing so retail and restaurant locations can continue transacting during network disruptions.
Open APIs and shared platform services give SAP architecture teams a framework for evaluating POS, payments, loyalty, and ERP data flows.
AI-enabled commerce applications are moving predictive insight into ordering, loss prevention, loyalty, and store operations as part of platform modernization.
NCR Voyix launched an AI-accelerated suite of microservices-based retail and restaurant applications built on the Voyix Commerce Platform in January 2026. The launch makes unified commerce platform SAP integration an immediate architectural question for retail and restaurant enterprises using ERP. Consistent commerce data must reach the core, while locations must keep trading when connectivity fails.
Fragmented Store Systems Undermine the SAP Digital Core
When point-of-sale (POS), ordering, payments, and loyalty operate as separate systems, data and workflows drift across channels and locations. Those gaps erode the value of a unified back office.
The Voyix Commerce Platform is designed to connect ordering, checkout, payments, marketing, and operations through shared data and workflows. That design targets consistent data and workflows for every channel and location. The platform is built to support both retail and restaurant environments on one foundation.
Voyix Edge Application Engine Keeps Stores Trading Through Outages
NCR Voyix positions the Voyix Commerce Platform’s cloud-to-edge, microservices architecture as a step beyond traditional omnichannel systems. Cloud-to-edge means workloads run partly in the cloud and partly at each location. Tills and kitchen systems can therefore continue local processing instead of waiting on a distant data center.
The Voyix Edge Application Engine is designed to run applications locally. It combines unified computing resources with dynamic workload scheduling and self-healing execution, helping stores remain operational through network outages. Centralized cloud-based controls are designed to automate deployments across site networks and monitor applications from one point.
Open APIs Anchor Unified Commerce Platform SAP Integration
Open platform enablers provide the integration layer through shared services and open application programming interfaces (APIs). NCR Voyix positions them as a foundation for in-house applications and wider ecosystem connections, and as a way to improve third-party application performance. That openness makes coexistence with SAP environments architecturally possible without establishing a certified SAP integration.
Architecture teams are therefore validating specific ERP integration patterns directly with the vendor. The Datos Insights Global POS Software 2025 study named NCR Voyix the world’s largest supplier of POS software and a leader in grocery, convenience, drug, and restaurant sectors. Stater Bros. Markets signed a May 2026 agreement to modernize POS and payments on the Voyix Commerce Platform.
What This Means for SAPinsiders
-
Edge computing moves into mainstream store operations. Retailers are prioritizing local runtime capacity so locations keep transacting when connectivity to central systems is interrupted. Organizations modernizing POS estates increasingly weigh offline continuity alongside feature breadth when comparing platform vendors.
-
Composable commerce reshapes enterprise platform buying. Open APIs and shared services are shifting commerce platforms from closed suites toward ecosystems connected to ERP cores. Architecture teams at peer organizations are mapping which commerce services integrate with SAP landscapes before shortlisting vendors.
-
AI moves into core commerce operations. Vendors are embedding predictive analytics into ordering, loss prevention, and operational intelligence rather than selling AI as an add-on. Leading retailers are treating AI readiness of commerce platforms as a standard criterion in multi-year modernization roadmaps.
