Company: Campbell Soup Company, an iconic brand in the snack and beverage industry, embarked on an ambitious cloud transformation journey. With a rich history of over 150 years and annual revenues surpassing USD 8 billion, Campbell’s challenge was to modernize its IT infrastructure. This became even more crucial following its acquisition of Snyder’s-Lance, a move that significantly increased its data management needs.
Challenge: As a household name with a diverse product range including Pepperidge Farm, Swanson, and V8, Campbell faced a daunting task. The company had to manage, store, and process vast amounts of data from its numerous subsidiaries. The acquisition of Snyder’s-Lance, a leading snack food brand, further amplified this need. Despite continuous efforts, Campbell’s SAP systems were struggling with reliability and scalability issues. The need for a radical IT overhaul was evident.
Solution: The acquisition of Snyder’s-Lance acted as a catalyst for Campbell. The company decided to integrate its new subsidiary’s data into its global SAP environment and re-architect its entire system to run on SAP HANA. After evaluating various providers, Campbell chose SAP HANA on Azure, leveraging its existing relationship with Microsoft.
The initial migration took just about 12 months because of the close collaboration between Campbell IT staff and specialists from Khoj Information Technology, an SAP Silver Partner, and a Microsoft partner. Khoj IT, a long-term managed services partner for Campbell, played a crucial role in modernizing and migrating Campbell’s SAP environments to Azure. They also successfully integrated Snyder’s-Lance business into Campbell’s system, doubling the SAP HANA environments in Azure from 6 TB to 12 TB.
Results: Today, Campbell enjoys the fruits of its laborious yet rewarding journey to Azure. The migration has significantly improved the availability and performance of their business-critical SAP systems. The Azure platform has granted Campbell unprecedented flexibility, agility, and scalability.
Most importantly, Campbell has achieved a more resilient food system and support structure for its frontline workers. The enhanced system allows for rolling maintenance, minimizing downtime and maximizing production efficiency.
Campbell Soup Company’s journey to the cloud is a testament to the power of strategic partnerships and innovative solutions. By embracing cloud computing with Khoj and Microsoft Azure, Campbell has not only streamlined its data management but also reinforced its commitment to quality, resilience, and efficiency in its operations.
